Wonderland wasn't always this way. There was a time when it mirrored medieval England, albeit with a few magical elements: a few quirks and eccentricities that made it truly unique. While all feared the Queen's mercurial temper and the fine blade of her Guillotine, all was well, until a little girl named Alice Liddell disturbed the status quo and sparked a revolution. The kingdom began to fall into decay as the taint of the modern world invaded. History is beginning to repeat itself and no one is happy. As the Queen of Hearts tangles in a battle of wits and riddles with the Cheshire Cat, the rest are starting to wonder ... is it true that the White Rabbit is bringing humans to Wonderland when they themselves are banned from going to London?

The last person to write to me was Ronnie, nearly 2 weeks ago. She's a relative newbie here. Before that, the only person who wrote anything at all this month was me. No one but she and I are going to make the activity check this month (but there won't be one, because none of the admins would make it).

My thread with MYSELF is now closed. That means I have no active threads in which Blake has posted this month. If activity checks were to happen, and everyone had to follow all the rules, I would lose Blake.

We had someone start to make a character a few weeks ago. A canon, in fact. But they never did, because they saw this board wasn't active. No one wants to join an inactive board.

This board is dead. It's a shame. I really liked this board. So much so that I stayed a month after it died. I realize that life happens to everyone. I know that it can be the case where one or two members or an admin can't make time to reply to something that really is just entertainment. But if all 3 admins AND the mod can't even make what should be a normal activity check, it's a bad sign. It's a sign that they can't keep the board up.

So I'm mainly posting this as a courtesy. I don't even know if anyone will get around to reading it. But if someone does, and the admins don't come back, that's where I went. I stopped checking if the board could revive.

If, on the off chance, it does zombify and come back from the dead, My skype should still be in the contacts. You can skype me and invite me back to the board. But I don't want to keep coming online every day to see that the only thing that has been posted is another ad for a board with far more activity.

Happy Halloween, and best of luck with your busy lives.

How long had it been? Three, four days? Five? He didn't know exactly how long it had been, but it was less than a week. Less than a week since his world-view had collapsed in on itself for the first time in a long time. Less than a week since he'd met the man that had single-handedly destroyed his life. Less than a week since he'd come face-to-face with the murderous knight who had rounded up his brothers and sisters and dragged them off to be made into Mock Turtle Soup.

Less than a week since he'd invited the man in for tea and biscuits.

He'd had a lot of time to himself to think about all of this. No one had come to bother him in the few days that had passed, not even Pierre the Gryphon. He had all this time to sit in solitude and contemplate everything, as he had done so often in the old days, before Alice. As much as he enjoyed not being bothered, he didn't want to be alone with these thoughts, these memories. He'd worked so hard to forget.

He wrapped his hands in his long, black, silky scarf that didn't match the rest of his late-summer outfit. He didn't care if it was boiling out, he would always wear this scarf. It kept him grounded. It reminded him of London, of his humanity. It wrapped around him like the gentle arms of a friend, whispering gently that it was all okay. He needed it. He needed to remember he wasn't a mock turtle anymore.

And that was why he was here, walking down the wooded path to the outer villages instead of home at the beach. He couldn't be surrounded by sand and old memories right now. He was having enough trouble keeping himself together as it was. He didn't want to cry. He'd been doing so well until all of this. He'd been getting better, and then life had to remind him of his own uselessness.

Why hadn't he gotten angry with the Red Knight? After all, the knight had taken his family from him. The only reason he'd been spared was because he was a runt. He had been too small to be worth the effort of dragging away and killing. No family, no home. He was too afraid to leave the sand and go into the ocean alone. He was a failure of a turtle. A Mock Turtle. He lived on the sand and in all his years there he'd never seen another turtle come to nest there. No sign of his parents that had left their eggs there. No cousins, no aunts, uncles, grandparents. No one came back to the beach. Perhaps they'd been turned into soup too. It was the only explanation he could come up with.

He was a failure. He was alone. He deserved to be alone. It was the world's punishment for being so useless.

Perhaps that was why he hadn't gotten mad at the knight. Sure, the knight had done it, but the knight was just a force of nature. An inevitability drawn there by his own fault. As a child he had been afraid of the knight the same was he was afraid of storms. But you don't hate a storm. It just is was it is. Unfortunate, but natural.

But he wasn't that same scared child anymore. He wasn't even that same creature anymore. He was human, even if he forgot sometimes... or at least he tried to be. He tried not to be the sad, pitiful Mock Turtle that people knew him to be. He didn't want to be the Mock Turtle. He wanted to be Terrence. He wanted to be Terry. Terry the human, completely normal.

He missed London for that reason. He hated that everyone in Wonderland remembered his old form. He hated being here and remembering that he was a failure. At least in London he fit in. No one knew him, he could start over. He could just be Terrence without looking and seeing his past all around him.

But after his meeting with the Knight he felt more like a Mock Turtle than ever. He felt worse than ever. What good was being a mock turtle? What good was a mock turtle besides being soup?

He felt tears stinging at his eyes and he looked up at the trees, blinking the water away as he took in a few deep breaths to calm himself. He didn't want to be a Mock Turtle. Or a Mock Human, as he was now. He wanted to be a human, or a real turtle. He always had wanted that. Both of those things. Before London he wanted to be a turtle. Maybe if he were a turtle he'd have a family somewhere. After London he wanted to be human. If he were human he could live in London and be happy. Instead he was THIS. This pitiful creature. He hated it. He hated himself.

But he didn't hate the knight, and he didn't hate people for eating Mock Turtle Soup. In fact he'd written a song about the soup when he was young, after his family was taken. 'Beautiful Soup', he called it. When he sang it he wanted to cry, and when he'd sung it to the knight the man had cringed. It had helped a bit to know that the knight was sorry for everything, but sorry didn't bring his family back.

He'd been walking for ages now, quite far from his beachfront home. And he was so lost in thought that he failed to notice another figure just up the road from him. Someone he didn't know. Someone he'd never seen before? It was strange. He'd met so many people. Though it was possible he knew her, and just didn't recognize her new human form. It happened a lot in Wonderland. He approached and gave a pitiful wave, hand still tangled up in his scarf. The gesture nearly made him choke himself, but he recovered quickly.

".....Hello." he said, voice shaky and weak as he was still composing himself to keep from crying in front of the stranger. "Who are you?" he frowned softly "...that wouldn't tell me very much... Who WERE you?" he corrected. He hated having to ask it. He knew if he did he'd have to admit to being the damned Mock Turtle, but other people had such strong connections to who they were before it was rude not to ask.

"I'm Terrence..... I was the mock turtle.... " He frowned deeper, eyebrows knitting together. The words were bitter on his tongue. Oh well.

Summer. The sand was heated by the sun and cooled by the waves. Crabs danced across the shore line while whiting fish glimmered just below the ocean surface. A pelican flew by. A single cloud floated merrily past the sun in one of those rare, perfectly picturesque moments. It was like a vacation destination. A nearly private beach, untouched by man, full of wildlife and beauty. Terrence's house overlooked the beach from a cliff, with a trail leading down to the sand. It wasn't very big, but it was more than enough for him. No one could ever ask for a more perfect home to live in, or for it to be in any better a location.

Terrence hated it.

He hated living on a cliff and worrying that someday his house would slide into the sea. He hated how the sea breeze coated everything with a fine layer of salt. He hated having the sun beat down on him every hour of the day with nowhere to find shade. He hated the constant roar of ocean waves. He hated the cawing of seagulls waking him up every morning. But most of all he hated each one of the memories.

He couldn't look out at the infinite expanse of sand, stretching out in either direction, without thinking of all the terrible things that had happened there. Even his earliest memories were of tragedies in the sand. He and his brothers and sisters had been abandoned there. They'd grown up in the sand and sea alone. And, when they had grown, though still just children, he came.

A soldier, dressed all in red. He rounded up Terrence's siblings to turn them into mock turtle soup for the Queen. Terrence was a runt. He was too small to make even an unappetizing bowl of soup. The soldier kicked sand over the cowering turtle to pretend he wasn't there, and left. Terrence never saw the soldier or his siblings again.

Terrence remembered. He remembered everything. He remembered the day he met Gryphon. The foolish bird had flopped onto the sand and comforted him as he cried. He remembered the day he met Alice here on the cliff and told her of his life and of his songs.... He even remembered dancing with the lobsters and whitings and snails in the moonlight.

And as he looked out his window at the shore he remembered where each and every one of these events took place. Some further down the beach, some at his doorstep, some at the high tide line. And he hated it. And he cried when he remembered.

Terrence stepped out of his house. He was dressed for the summer heat except for his ever-present black scarf. He didn't care how warm it was. It served a very important purpose to him. To remind him that he was more than his memories. To remind him that he was more than just a Mock Turtle now. He was Terrence. He was human. And that was a good thing.

He walked down the path to the sand, taking off his shoes and leaving them on the grass before going down to the water's edge. He started humming softly to himself as he walked down the beach, unaware of the other person ahead, keeping his eyes down. He was quite caught up in his thoughts and music.

Terrence is a very melancholic soul. He can't help himself. He's been so depressive for so long it has become a bit of a bad habit. He spends most of his day wallowing in his own self-pity or worrying if everyone around him hates him (usually deciding that they do). He hates crowds and the noise associated with them. Deep, deep down, however, he loves to sing and dance and spend time with the very few people he lets into his personal space. He does actually have fun once in a while, whether he acts like he's enjoying it or not. His face is just stuck in that permanently teary-eyed state.

Naturally, Terry is very dramatic. He has less to be sad about than many other people, but he just can't stop himself from crying at any moderately unfortunate thing that crosses his path. He has a bad habit of speaking his mind too bluntly, and this can lead to trouble.

Terry doesn't believe anyone could ever love such a failure of a creature as a mock turtle, so attempting a relationship with him would be a constant effort. He is more likely to believe that a flirting attempt is a ploy to get something out of him than a legitimate attempt at intimacy. However, once you are his friend, you are his friend for life. If you manage that, surely it could escalate and blossom into a beautiful (if not incredibly clingy) romance. Because he does not limit his friend group in any way, and could potentially end up in a romantic relationship with ANY of his friends, I would call him pan-romantic (though he might change that to pansexual if he shows himself to be interested in that sort or thing).

Like love, becoming friends with Terry takes a lot of time and effort and it will be hard to tell if and when it happens. Since he always acts like the world is going to end, it can be hard to realize if he accepts your company or not. The best way to tell is if he isn't rude to you and if he seems comfortable dancing and singing with you. He has a very dry sense of humor that is very similar to his usual depressive statements, but if you can get him to laugh then you are already his friend. The best advice for becoming his friend is to try to ignore his depressive self-deprecation and be yourself with him. That's how Gryphon does it. After all, Gryphon said "It's all his fancy, that: he hasn't got no sorrow." Once you are his friend, he will follow you to the ends of the world, even if it means doing things he doesn't like.

It is very easy to be Terry's enemy. He is already certain everyone hates him, so to find out one person actually does would come as no surprise to him. He will always play the victim, however, and will not actively drive anyone away.If he doesn't like you, he will simply be his usual blunt, melancholic self and wait for you to go away on your own. The best ways to get on his bad side are to interrupt his songs and remind him of his 'mock' status (especially in reference to mock turtle soup).

Blake has always been a very quiet man. He likes to sit and read, staying as far from the drama of Wonderland as possible (as difficult as that is). He was an English Professor in London, and so still has that friendly, snarky demeanor. He had a wife years ago, and he thought he would never find love again. He was contented with that. But then he met a beautiful young man who opened his eyes to his own feelings. Now, as he was dragged to Wonderland, even that has been taken from him. He's lost everything, and he needs to rebuild his life from the ground up.

Blake had a wife once. She was beautiful and kind, and they could have been happy together if Blake were a different man. But, they separated and Blake did his best to be okay with that. He was so deep in the closet that he didn't even think of it. He was alone for years. He'd grown comfortable with that loneliness. He thought he was happy. Until Luca, a young community centre owner, gently coaxed him out of the closet. They started to build a life together. In fact, Blake was about to move into an apartment with him until he was kidnapped to Wonderland.

Needless to say, Love is very much a closed group to him now. He doesn't even want to think about finding someone else to replace Luca. If the topic is even breached it will be met with a sharp glare and adamant refusal. Do not attempt. Try being his friend instead.

Though, there is always the chance that he feels vulnerable, and misses Luca's gentle touch. In a moment of weakness it is conceivable that, in the right environment, he could make a mistake and allow himself a little physical intimacy. After all, he was denied that part of his being for so long before he found Luca. It would be no wonder that he would have trouble abandoning those feelings completely. His heart will always belong to Luca, however.

Blake has always been quite easy to be friends with. He is polite and smart, and just a little sassy but never so far as to offend. If you want to have a long discussion about your favorite arts, especially written ones, he will gladly participate. If you are having personal troubles and need someone to cry to, he will be there with a hot cup of tea and a shoulder to cry on (though he can't give relationship advice. He never could, but now he'll have even less to say).

However, do not expect him to go out socializing without some reason. He was never especially sociable, but coming to Wonderland didn't help that one bit. He's far more interested in spending all his time in the Royal Library or focusing on what little work he has to do. He is doing his best to learn everything about Wonderland he can, maybe to find a way to get home, maybe because he was working on his Doctorate before and he's slightly peeved he didn't get to finish.

In spite of his cheerful disposition and friendly nature, the little man does have a short temper and an over-protective streak. There isn't much he can do about it but yell and frown at you, given that he has the physical prowess of your average garden slug, but he will be quite miffed. He gets quite upset over personal insults, feeling like he's gone though quite enough and he deserves some peace, but that might not be enough to make you his enemy. Mentioning his failed love life or suggesting he 'get out there' will definitely get him to glare. And if you're one of the louder residents of Wonderland it is quite possible he will avoid you because you are clearly not someone he can enjoy being around while he reads.

Another thing to note, for friends and enemies, is that he will readily pass out at the sight of blood. He used to have a very active policy in his classroom that if you have a large paper cut or otherwise need a bandage, do not show it to him. Just go get a bandage from the cupboard. He is very insecure about this fact, and has been working to fix it. Especially now that he's in the castle and having to see the Red Knight more often than not....

Lance.... oh Lance. How does one describe a personality like Lance? He would like to be described as *HONORABLE*, *CHIVALROUS*, *STRONG*, and all of those fine words that one should use to describe a knight.... most others would probably go with 'vain', 'egotistical', 'dumb as a post'. He is probably a little of all of these things, maybe even a jerk with a heart of gold.
Lance is an absolute romantic, having attempted to absorb every bit of literature on the knight's code of chivalry while in London. If you are a lady he will open doors for you, stand when you enter a room, kiss your hand. He is a firm believer that "No one should be deprived of love without the very best of reasons", " a true lover considers nothing good except what he thinks will please his beloved", and "every act of a lover ends in the thought of his beloved".

HOWEVER, this does not make him the ideal boyfriend to any prospective mates. He also thinks that jealousy and love are nearly the same thing, and that "love is always increasing or decreasing", and "if love diminishes, it quickly fails and rarely revives". This makes him a very flighty man, constantly chasing new passions. He also thinks that "the easy attainment of love makes it of little value; difficulty of attainment makes it prized", so he is constantly going after things he can't possibly hope to attain (such as the affections of the Queen).
(all quotes from the 31 Rules of Courtly Love by Andreas Capellanus, written in 12th Century France)
If Lance decides you aren't some kind of villain, then you are automatically his friend by default whether YOU like him or not. He will invite you jousting, offer to go riding with you, or go out drinking with you. Naturally all of these things become competitions, but they are all good-natured. He likes making friends and he wants to do his best to make his friends into the best people they can be. He has a lot of hope for everyone.

Another good sign that he has decided you are his GOOD friend is if he yells while speaking to you when you're only 5 feet away. He is quite a loud and boisterous man, rivaling even Pierre the Gryphon in that respect. He has a bit of a flair for the dramatic, so if you start arguing with him he will turn it into a scene until he decides the skit is over and he decides it is time to return to whatever he was doing before.
ANYONE who works against the Queen is an enemy to Lance. The Cat and anyone who sides with him are guilty until proven innocent (though it doesn't take much convincing for Lance to like you). If you are a large mythical creature of Wonderland, he's probably tried to kill you at least once (and either failed or got too scared to go through with the attempt). If you say something bad about the Queen, he will absolutely take that as a direct insult and probably declare a duel with you. If you say something bad about a lady in his presence, he will defend her honor no matter who she is.
If he isn't threatening to kill you or immediately engaged in a duel with you, the best way to tell if Lance doesn't like you is if he gets quiet. If Lance lowers his voice on his own will, it is probably because you said something he didn't like or he is attempting to plan how to kill you later. He rarely follows up on his threats, but he is very good at holding grudges until something is done to make up for it (usually offering to drink with him or joust with him can fix his hatred quite quickly).
