Lance Errant Chevalier
one man is no more than another, unless he does more than another
charming — loyalist — egotistical — enjoys *honorable* sports — secretly cowardly
He only knows the code of chivalry from his time in London, and has a very loose grasp on the concepts.
The White Knight was always a loyal, if incredibly stupid creature. He always had little ideas to make himself better in battle that never really went anywhere. A sandwich bag that opened from the bottom to protect it from rain, while also causing his lunch to fall out. Spiked anklets for his horse to protect him from a non-existent shark menace. An impractical riding style that made him fall out of his saddle if he didn't have his weapon out as a counterbalance... He really was quite an awful knight, but he tried so hard and he would do anything to protect the crown. He got a rather big head because of it.
He never quite realized just how awful a knight he was until that day when he helped a small Lady find her way in the middle of the battlefield. She was the first one to really point out his flaws to him directly, and it was quite a blow to his ego. He'd always assumed he was the greatest knight in the land. After all, the royals he was sworn to protect were doing quite fine. No one had slipped by him during his years of service....But if he wasn't even riding his horse correctly... what kind of protector could he really be? What if he wasn't as good as he'd thought? What if some no-good cad had gotten past him?! He needed to fix it before something happened to his beloved monarchy under his flawed watch!
He trained hard, worked hard, read up on as much as he could get his hands on. He improved his riding, jousting, even tried to learn how to handle a sword better though he still wasn't very great at that one. Every second of time and effort he put into it the more confidence he regained, until he was a new and improved White Knight.
When he heard Alice died, the White Knight went to London to pay his respects. She had been such a lovely Lady, and if not for her he wouldn't be the man he was today. He hated having to leave his Queen to do it, but surely he wasn't needed so desperately that he couldn't go to London for a while..right?
While he was in London he discovered the archetype of the Knight Errant or White Knight. He read every book available- Knights of the Round, Don Quixote, anything at all with knights as the main characters. He absorbed it all. He wanted to be that. He always felt like this is what he had been aspiring to all his life.
He took the name Lance Errant Chevalier, the most Knightly and honorable name he could think of. He studied the tenants of chivalry, and war, and honor, and vowed to uphold them. London was such a broken, un-chivalrous place. It needed a knight again, like Lancelot. Maybe he could even introduce himself to this world's Queen!
Lance was quite happy in London. He was strange, yes, but he embraced the London life with zeal. He even took trips to the countryside to ride horses and see 'medieval reenactment' that he enjoyed quite a lot. But then one day he ran into his old partner, the Red Knight. The portals were closing, but worse, there was a new Queen in Wonderland. The previous one had been usurped, but The Red Knight had already sworn loyalty to the new one, and Lance knew he had to do the same. He had to leave London behind. Wonderland needed him. It was a bit depressing at first, but he knew it would be for the best. He couldn't leave the Red Knight to help the new Queen run Wonderland alone.
So, he returned to Wonderland and swore loyalty to the Queen. She was the new queen, and he would follow her orders to the ends of the earth if that was what it took. It was the same loyalty he had to his own master, and he wouldn't give his new master anything less. Besides, Wonderland was very different now, and so was he. Perhaps he could take his mission in London and bring it here as well. Perhaps he could spread true *chivalry* and *honor* and *strength* throughout Wonderland! After all, it was such a silly place, historically. Maybe they just needed a good influence for once...
No offence, Achilles.
